Ondo electoral commission accredits 50 observers for Saturday LG poll

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission has accredited 50 local and international observers for the January 18 Local Government elections in the state.

This was stated in a release signed by Mr Tunde Adeleye, the ODIEC Commissioner for Communication, Media, and IT, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure.

Adeleye emphasised that the announcement reinforced the commission’s commitment to credible elections and aimed to ensure stakeholders were well-informed ahead of the polls.

He noted that the commission had reaffirmed its dedication to holding credible Local Government elections and providing a peaceful platform for observation.

“For this election, nearly 50 local and international Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have been accredited,” he said. “These organisations are approved to monitor the upcoming Ondo State Local Government elections, which are set for Saturday, January 18, 2025.”

Adeleye further explained that the accredited NGOs would deploy observers across all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ondo State to monitor the electoral process.

“This initiative highlights ODIEC’s commitment to upholding the democratic principles of free, fair, credible, and transparent elections,” he added.

He explained that engaging the observers was part of the commission’s effort to enhance public confidence in the electoral process. The presence of these observers would ensure that all activities surrounding the elections were conducted in line with established guidelines.

Adeleye called on voters in the state to actively participate in the upcoming elections and exercise their civic duty responsibly.

“Together, we can achieve elections that truly reflect the will of the people,” he concluded.
