Dangote refinery begins production
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Company has commenced the production of refined petroleum products.
With the capacity to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, the largest single-train refinery in the world covers an area of approximately 2,635 hectares, and it is located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos.
It commenced production on Friday, January 12.
The company disclosed in a statement through its official X handle (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
“Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced production of diesel and aviation fuel.
“Alhaji Aliko Dangote elatedly thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement towards the actualisation of this project.
“Dangote also thanked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Nigerians for their support and belief in the historic project,” it wrote.
The development comes after the refinery received the final (6th) batch of one million barrels of crude oil required by the plant for its initial operations.
The company had earlier announced its readiness to commence production.
A month ago, the Dangote refinery received the first one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, one of the largest trading companies in Nigeria, as well as globally, trading in over eight million barrels of crude oil per day.
