Police fire teargas at protesters in Abuja on Independence Day

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have fired teargas canisters at some youths, in Abuja, the federal capital territory, who were protesting against the high cost of living in the country.

The protesters had assembled around the popular Berger roundabout at about 7 am marching towards the Eagles’ Square.

However, to disperse the protesters, the operatives of the Nigerian police Force resorted to the use of force.

The protesters are calling on the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to immediately address the hunger and other economic crises in the nation.

Meanwhile, Tinubu had in his nationwide broadcast to mark the Independence Day anniversary, assured Nigerians that his administration was implementing many measures to impact the high cost of living
