NiMet workers suspend strike for two weeks

Striking unions under the Nigerian Meteorological Agency have suspended their strike action for two weeks.

Following a meeting with Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, in Abuja on Thursday, the industrial action, which was driven by demands for better working conditions, was called off.

Uzor Oluchi, President of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, confirmed this to journalists on Thursday night

According to Oluchi, “We have suspended the strike by 12.00 for two weeks and after two weeks have passed and nothing is done about our demands, we will start again.”

NiMET workers had protested poor working conditions, citing the failure to implement the new national minimum wage, the exclusion of certain staff from past allowances, and the neglect of vital training programmes, among other issues.
