University doctors threaten strike in Ebonyi

Members of the Association of Resident Doctors at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu, Ebonyi State, have threatened to suspend services at the institution should the ongoing tension persist.

Tension has continued to pervade the hospital since last week after its host community protested against the management of the medical teaching facility.

The decision was arrived by the doctors during an emergency meeting on Sunday where a communique signed by Dr. Peace Ebisike, the association’s president, and Mathew Nwachukwu, the secretary, was made available to newsmen.

The communique reads, “We doctors are concerned about the negative impact of the recent unrest on our members and the quality of service delivery to patients.

“We express regret that the situation has hindered effective patient management, ultimately defeating the purpose of establishing DUFUTH.”

The association called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to resolve the differences amicably and restore peace to the hospital as soon as possible.

The doctors reaffirmed their support for the hospital’s management, led by Professor Uzoma Agwu, in seeking the progress of the hospital.
